Rum is definitely in fashion! Frenchmen Eric Judor and Joey Starr have launched their own cuvée, while England’s Rolling Stones and America’s Mike Love (Beach Boys) have done the same, and Johnny Depp is said to be getting ready…
Jus d’Or, Eric Judor’s new cocktail!
The result of a collaboration between French actor, director, screenwriter and humorist Eric Judor and the “Cane” company, this ready-to-drink cocktail is made with homemade maracuja puree, homemade vanilla syrup, orgeat syrup, rhum agricole and lime. You’ll have noticed the play on words in the name, but the humor doesn’t stop there, as the label reproduces the shape of Éric Judor’s skull and ears.
Joey Starr and his Carnival rum
The rapper/comedian has always been a rum aficionado, and now he’s an independent bottler: Carnival Jamaican Rum is a blend of rums from Long Pond and Clarendon, aged between 3 and 5 years in ex-bourbon barrels. Carnival Barbados Rum is also a blend of rums aged between 3 and 5 years in ex-bourbon barrels from the West Indies distillery. Finally, a Guatemala/Belize blend whose molasses rums are aged for 3 years in ex-bourbon barrels.
Crossfire Hurricane makes the Rolling Stones sing
Crossfire Hurricane is a blend of rums from Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic aged for 5 years in French oak barrels. It was created in partnership with the Universal Music Group label and Socio Ventures, a company specialized in creating drinks with celebrities. Crossfire Hurricane is taken from the lyrics of one of their biggest hits: Jumpin’ Jack Flash (1968): “I was born in a crossfire hurricane And I howled at the morning drivin’ rain”.
Mike Love too
Mike Love (co-founder of the Beach Boys) launched Club Kokomo in 2022, with a range of ready-to-drink (RTD) rum and gin cocktails. In 2024, He has now added three rums to his portfolio: a white rum, a barrel-aged rum (Jamaican, Barbadian and Dominican 8- and 10-year-old rums), and an arrangé – Tahitian vanilla.
And soon Jack Sparrow?
