Focus cuvée – Planteray presents its version of Navy Rum with Mister Fogg

So here, at last, is Alexandre Gabriel and Matt Pietrek’s version of the famous Navy Rum.

Planteray Mister Fogg

This rum has not been produced since the early 1970s, so the duo had to conduct particularly thorough research before a certain Mr Fogg gave them access (on his deathbed) to the documentation he had amassed.

The result is a rum made from a joyful blend: Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and a touch of Mauritius! These are molasses and pure juice rums (Mauritius) that have fermented for between two days and three weeks and been distilled in pot stills and columns.

They were aged in old bourbon casks in their country of origin, then transported to south-western France, thus reproducing the historical tradition of dynamic ageing on ships.

Upon arrival in the Cognac region, the blend undergoes double ageing in used oak barrels and prolonged oxygenation in large open wooden vats in cellars located near the River Antenne, replicating the humid environment of London’s naval docks, which promotes maturation. A moderate dosage of 4.8 g/L completed the process.

The latter guarantees a rum with a rich, mellow taste and enhanced sweetness. Planteray Mister Fogg Navy Rum has rich notes of molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla, dried fruit and spices to create a well-balanced aromatic profile, ideal for enjoying neat or in cocktails.

With a robust alcohol content of 55.7%, it reflects the historical standards of the navy and guarantees the rum’s stability, honouring British naval traditions while appealing to modern palates.

Planteray Mister Fogg Navy Rum is not just a navy rum, it is an epic tale rich in history and refined craftsmanship.

Tasting notes: Opens with notes of dried fruit, orange peel, chocolate and vanilla, ending with notes of plum and caramel.
