Planteray pushes back the limits of double ageing and unveils triple ageing with its new PXXO
The XO, an emblematic reference in the Planteray range, is now maturing in Pedro Ximenez casks. The ‘classic’ Planteray XO has already been aged in American white oak casks at the West Indies Rum Distillery (tropical climate), then matured again in old Ferrand casks in the more temperate climate of Charente.
So it’s a triple maturation for this new Planteray, christened PXXO as Alexandre Gabriel, Founder and Master Blender of Planteray Rum explains, “Planteray XO 20th Anniversary rum is loved around the world, and our choice to enrich it with Pedro Ximénez casks celebrates an ancient tradition that enhances the rum’s aromatic profile with unique notes. While many rums today are aged exclusively in bourbon casks, our commitment to craftsmanship has led us to explore a variety of ageing methods. This finish in Pedro Ximénez casks demonstrates our commitment to offering connoisseurs an exceptional tasting experience’.
Producer’s tasting notes :
Nose: very Caribbean and Barbadian, beginning with spicy notes of coconut and vanilla, evolving towards a honeyed side, with pastry touches of gingerbread, cloves and incense. As the rum opens, tropical fruit aromas such as mango and banana take over, accompanied by subtle tobacco notes.
Palate: rich and velvety, with initial notes of coconut, chocolate and custard. Complemented by aromas of coffee, grapes and a touch of lemon. Next, notes of plum, almond, cherry, ginger and sweet spices make their entrance, with hints of brine adding a tangy complexity.
Finish: long and indulgent, marked by elegant wood, aromas of butterscotch, dates and figs. Lingering notes of coconut oil and coffee accompany the cocoa, with complex touches of sesame, liquorice and pink berries adding further depth to the finish.
