Saint James, based in Martinique, recently unveiled a new addition to its range of aged rums, an 18-year-old.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This rum was aged in the Saint James cellars for 18 years in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, without topping up or reduction. This 2004 vintage was bottled in 2022 and is 43% proof.<\/p>\n

Marc Sassier, head of production at the Saint James distillery, makes no secret of his enthusiasm: \u2018This very old rum is the result of exceptional aromatic concentration without topping up, after eighteen years of ageing in our cellars in the tropical climate of Sainte-Marie. Structured and full-bodied, its fruity, finely spiced flavours reveal a round, smooth finish. Patience and elegance are the watchwords\u2019.<\/p>\n

Tasting notes provided by the producer :<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Nose: Intense notes of roasting mixed with nutmeg and wood. A smooth, fruity finish of fruit macerated in alcohol (plum, prune).<\/em><\/p>\n

Palate: The woodiness structures the whole for a long finish.<\/em><\/p>\n

Finish: The finish is fruity (marmalade, candied citrus fruit and prune) and spicy.<\/em><\/p>\n
